Sponsor Banner Design Ideas for Effective Advertising

A sponsor banner displays the names, logos, and/or taglines of donors that provided financial support for a team or event.

Follow these tips to improve your banner design:

1. Use colors that match your event theme.

Create a visually appealing and cohesive look for your sponsor banners by using your event’s theme colors.

What Works:

  • Well-Coordinated Colors: The two tall 70/30 custom mesh banners we printed for the WOW Super Raffle outdoor event show off a bright orange backdrop that matches the orange table in the middle of the stage. With an attractive, two-tone background, the sponsor logos and brand names easily catch the eye.
  • Parallel Accent Color: Slanted green accents at the top and bottom of each banner run parallel to each other, creating a harmonious look.

Pro Tip: If you’re planning to display matching sponsor banners on both sides of the stage, make sure the sponsor rows and any design accents (such as the green accents above) are all aligned and visually balanced.

2. Frame your stage with solo sponsor banners.

Three large sponsorship banners framing an outdoor music festival stage, each highlighting one lead sponsor.

For the Back to the Bricks outdoor summer festival in Athens, Ohio, we printed multiple 70/30 mesh banners that each highlight only one sponsor.

What Works:

  • One Lead Sponsor for Each Banner: Bright colors and oversized, slightly slanted lettering on the Sun Cruiser banner make the brand and its event sponsorship simple to spot. Miller’s wide commercial banner above the stage features a catchy tagline and a creative can graphic, whereas the repeated, colorful logo on Hocking Valley Bank’s banner looks instantly recognizable.

Ask the event organizer for the exact stage measurements to ensure your banners aren’t too big or too small.

Pro Tip: Use vector files for logos and artwork and high-resolution images, if necessary. Avoid using low-quality photos, which will most likely look blurry and pixelated when printed on large banners.

3. Arrange banner information in proper visual hierarchy.

Two large vertical sponsor banners featuring a well-coordinated design and proper visual hierarchy.

For the Skylark Music Festival, we printed coordinated sponsorship banners that display multiple details without looking overcrowded.

What Works:

  • Clear Hierarchy of Information: The top of each banner showcases the festival’s name and logo, followed by the event’s partners/sponsors. The left banner features Continuum Arts Collective’s mission statement and sponsor logos, whereas the right banner highlights prominent sponsor logos above a list of smaller supporting names. This layout works if you want to announce the event while promoting different sponsors.

Pro Tip: Determine the distance between the audience and the sponsor banners. It’s best to choose font types and sizes that make key details easily readable from that distance.

4. Give each sponsor enough room.

This sponsorship banner for Kelli’s Kegs N’ Eggs 5K Race for Brain Cancer Research highlights more than a dozen sponsors with enough room for each.

Sponsor Banner Design Ideas That Work:

  • Large Banner Size and Well-Organized Sponsor Display: The oversized banner has plenty of space for numerous sponsors. A large, bright yellow “thank you” message at the top creates a welcoming atmosphere. Since people are taking photos near the banner, it’s easy for viewers to distinguish brand names and logos in person and in photos.

However, if you have too many sponsors, I suggest using a second display or making the banner bigger instead of cramming smaller logos into a single banner.

Pro Tip: Thank sponsors where people gather. The banner above was installed outside a tent using banner grommets, and it served as a backdrop for race participants taking selfies. This way, sponsors get more exposure through social media posts.

5. Make your “thank you” message the headline.

Designed for indoor display and close-up viewing, this retractable vinyl sports banner for the Whitby Wildcats Novice AAA hockey team catches attention with oversized, bold lettering.

What Works:

  • Clear Message and Hierarchy: The event sponsor banner design leads with an attention-catching message that recognizes the sponsors, followed by rows of logos.
  • Distinct Team Branding: The ice-blue background color complements the hockey theme, while the team’s name and mascot at the bottom strengthen the team’s identity.

Pro Tip: Double-check the readability of the smallest brand names and logos before printing. For the banner above, I’d increase the contrast and enlarge some of the brand names that appear faint and small.
